World Heart Day

September 29th is the World Heart Day. The World Heart Day was created by the World Heart Federation with the purpose of raising public awareness regarding cardiovascular disease (CVD) as the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 17.5 million lives each year.  The day is also meant to highlight the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control cardiovascular disease (CVD).
The term, cardiovascular disease (CVD), refers to any disease of the heart, vascular disease of the brain, or disease of the blood vessels. The most prevalent cardiovascular diseases include coronary heart disease and cerebrovascular disease e.g. heart attack and stroke, respectively.
